Hawaiian Skies
Copyright ©2002 Jorie West

The fragrance of Plumeria settles sweetly over me

With the sound of crashing waves upon the aqua velvet sea

Like a mother to her child the aina calls to her own

As the dawn brings forth the light to guide her children safely home

The beauty of the morning gently soothes my weary eyes

There is nothing in the world equal to Hawaiian Skies

Hawaiian Skies cover my homeland

The sacred aina where I stand

The island breeze whispers a love song

Spreading aloha across the land

Welcoming all in need of comfort

If only momentary rest

The air is fresh and sweet relief

Washes over me with every breath

Hawaiian skies, breathtaking in the sunset's vibrant light

Will calm the soul with melodies all through a silky, dreamless night

The sky is filled with signs and wondrous beauty all around

That cause the heart to realize that Ke Akua can be found

His signature is plainly seen on earth and sky above

The islands are His masterpiece, a gift of love

O na lani Hawaii kau mai i luna

He malu no ka aina o ke one hanau

O ke aloha i ka pa makani

Pahola nei ke aloha o ka aina

Ke welina nei me ka olu' olu'

He ho'omaha wale no

Maikai ke ea a nanea wau

Ma 'ema 'e a ho 'ola hou 'ia wau

The air is fresh and sweet relief

Washes over me with every breath

(Hawaiian Oli from 2 Chronicles 7:14 then followed by the

Hawaiian State Motto)

English translation: "If my people who are called by my name

will humble themselves and pray, seek my face and turn from

their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and heal

their lands."

"The life of the land is perpetuated in Righteousness"
